Ah, it is as I thought. I like it when things are as I expect them to be.
Utopia; quite simply, an inexistent place that would have a perfect political, legal and economic system where humans are actually capable of being happy. That would be nice, right? My personal opinion of a Utopia, is Communism, we all know that, and really, I am not a mind control freak. I hate people in my mind, so I won't go get into other people's heads either. However, my previous explanation seems inefficient, as that was solely to compare Communism and capitalism; it was about the basics of Communism and how it resembles capitalism.
I pointed out the most important difference; Communism relies on a person's will to serve the community: patriotism, while capitalism relies on a person's greed and selfishness. It is not an issue whether people work or not; it is the task of the rest of the community to encourage and educate those people that their work is important for the community and thereby for themselves. Penalties for such issues are not important; it is the task of the government that exists to take care of that and that can be good or bad, it is irrelevant.
In my Utopia, I imagine a nation, where people live in small communes, each with their own board of elders or whatever, to discuss simple issues; local government. Excess produce, which will always be there, is collected by the national government for national distribution: not each commune will produce the same amount, or even the same goods; this is important to ensure a wealth of various foods and goods. Trade with other countries avoids the corruption of the stock markets, and should be in the form of direct trade or other embargo's like rights of passage, or whatever. Trade with other countries will be important, to keep up our current level of civilization; we need luxury goods, like light bulbs and materials that are not found on/in our soil; can you imagine life without light bulbs? Besides the economic issue, the task of the national government should be protection, in multiple ways.
In communism, education and culture is most important, to keep people aware of the importance of their work, and what would happen if they let go of that. There should be festivals and celebrations concerning the heart of communism, there are plenty of things to celebrate; the harvest, spring season, birthdays of trade embargo's, victory's and so on. Again, people need to be aware of the importance of their work for their nation; they need to be patriotic to ensure a healthy working nation. The reason for labor shouldn't be the paycheck at the end of the month, it should be sympathy to the community. Thát is my Utopia, a world in which people work for a positive reason, not because of the stress of the pursuit for more capital. Greed brings corruption, crime and all evil of today's society; if people wouldn't work for themselves, but for their community and through that, indirectly for themselves: this world would be a much, much better place. There would never have been evil, just love; we just never evolved from being barbarians, to being Utopians. We became humans.
Okay, I must admit, there is one problem with communism; there would be less porn. No currency means no broke straight boys to make gay porn with -then again it could be imported of course.
If only you had been broke a bit more often, Ryan... that'd have made the world a better place as well. On the bright side, there would be no prostitutes either; the perfect Christian nation. Ha ha! Although there will always be those who find being a prostitute exciting, and I guess there is need for that, because I agree with the statement that allowing prostitution decreases rape crimes.
There is absolutely no reason, to say that communism uses force to get people to work. It is stupid; there are other ways to get people to work like the one I mentioned above. And besides, doesn't capitalism force you to go to work? Even thinking of it makes my stomach turn; I don't want to work because I have to, I want to work because I want to be important to society, because society is important to me and I want to do my share in making her great. And it doesn't take mind controlling to get people to work for you, that is a stupid idea; if people would understand the simple structure of communism, and understand that every effort they put in society is worth it there is no need to force anyone. It takes education; not propaganda, propaganda is lying, education is telling the truth and convincing.
Communism has such great possibilities, it's just such a shame people are blinded by past failures and misunderstandings. Communism is not being a slave to the government, that's the Borg, "you will be assimilated", communism isn't a science fiction story, it is a Utopia; a fiction, a dream of perfection.
Remember I said that the soul purpose of life, is the pursuit of happiness, this is my ideal environment of finding that. The soul of communism has nothing to do with the dictatorships it has known in the past, it has nothing to do with what people have made or thought of it in the past and present. It is the possibility of the future. Does it take such a brilliant mind to see through the capitalistic propaganda and the horrible failures of the past? Am I still trying to make the blind see? Or is it really just a bit of ignorance?
I think it is like Christendom; unwilling to accept the obvious truth, and twisting obvious facts to fit your own beliefs. I never said you had to agree with me, and I'm always in for healthy debate, but bringing in disturbing facts that are not really relevant is plain stupid. My views on communism are not some authoritarian state where people are forced to work, believe and live within the state boundaries. It has absolutely nothing to do with fascism, or any form of such superior governments. It is the ignorance of people that transforms my ideology in to something evil. If you'd rather stick to the things you call 'freedom' that capitalism brings, sure, go ahead; but don't call the alternative evil. Communism is the ultimate freedom from the race of becoming better than your neighbor, it is becoming better with your neighbor.
And just remember: the ultimate form of capitalism, is theft and corruption like we see today.

I'm glad to read that you see communism as a utopian ideal as opposed to an actual, long-term, successful system. About the only point you brought up that I disagree with is as follows:
"Communism relies on a person's will to serve the community; patriotism, while capitalism relies on a person's greed and selfishness."
Based on the communist systems of the past, I would rephrase the first sentence to say, "Communism relies on a person's compliance through state coercion to serve the community".
I would change the second sentence to say, "Capitalism relies on a person's personal work ethic, personal inovation, and the individual desire to achieve."
Capitalist societies do not hold a monopoly on "greed and selfishness". There are "socialists" in socialist societies that lie, cheat, and steal with a dog-eat-dog attitude for their own personal gain as well. Politicos and bureaucrats of the former communist nations of Europe were notorious for that.
Sociopathy is a psychological condiiton--not a politcal and economic system, although there are certain political parties in various countries throughout the world that simply serve as a collective of people who have an amoral attitude towards such things as poverty and corruption. Mexico's PRI is a prime example of that.
I don't idolize all capitalist billionaires either. Bill Gates holds some virtures in that he has voluntary redstributed millions of dollars of his own wealth to worthy, humanitarian causes, especially AIDS relief.
Mexico's Carlos Slim on the other hand, who recently surpassed Gates as the world's wealthiest person, is a capitalist pig in my opinion. He became a billionaire in the early 1990's by the Mexican government headed by former President Carlos Salinas denationalizing and selling him TelMex, which was Mexico's only local and long distance telephone service provider. Instead of breaking the telemopoly up and putting segments of it up for bids, Salinas just sold it all to Slim, who owns a number of other enterprises as well, including today a big share of Saks Fifth Avenue.
Slim doesn't donate as much to charity anywhere near Bill Gates does, and was recently quoted as saying that he thought it was better for him to create more jobs than to donate mass sums of his fortune to charity. That attitude might have some merit if he would pay the thousands of Mexican employees of all the companies he owns decent salaries instead of low third world wages, which he could afford to do and still make a decent profit.
"Okay, I must admit, there is one problem with communism; there would be less porn. No currency means no broke straight boys to make gay porn with -then again it could be imported of course."
Individual, for-profit prostitution is legal in Cuba now. The Cuban prostitutes would otherwise be broke Cubans just getting by. A lot of porn, both straight and gay, is coming out of there via tourist photographers and their digital cameras taking photos of female hookers and male hustlers willing to pose.
Now if communist countries had to import porn, they would be importing it from capitalist countries. That's why the former communist systems of Europe and elsewhere didn't work very well--they had to rely on a certain amount of trade with capitalist nations in order to survive, which disproved Marx's utopian ideal that the world would be a better place if communism could be spread world-wide.
Well that's another way of seeing it; and as you understand, I know there are good things about capitalism, I just think communism is a much more wonderful system; a system I'd love to live in, if it would ever be achieved without the flaws we all know of.
Oh, sorry I forgot there were two entries :) (by the way, I think the other readers are letting us discuss this political stuff on our own, they may have a point)
I am not a Marxist or anything, I am a communist, and I most certainly hate the idea of some worldwide form of government. I think it is important that there will always be several different forms of government. It brings invention and ability to choose. I do think there were good communists Lenin, for example; but that doesn't make me a Leninist; I'm a Diederick-ist, same as you're a Ricardo-ist.
Utopias are nice fiction; they may never be realized, but in the meantime, it's enjoyable to fantasize about it. That's what I do.
that was thoughtful reading
i doubt that any political system has been done the way it 'ought' to be; people being such screw ups; they bungle everything.
I too regard capitalism as a fatally flawed system for organizing human society.
In some ways, though, I also have problems with communism, because communism and capitalism are quite closely related, in this sense: They are both based on an economics of lack, and both systems only function within the nation/state system, which exists only to control the flow of people, goods and money.
Virtually everything you say about personal motivations I'm in complete agreement with.
And where would we be without porn?
That's a silly question, of course. There will always be porn!
Thanks Be!
But what do you do to the people who don't want you planning their life for them?
