The acquisition that sir Elton John possesses child pornography is cruising the world today; he is owner of an art collection that wears his name. The collection is by some artist and contains an image of an older girl looking at a completely naked minor girl who lies on the floor, with her legs open wide. See, the point is, where do we draw the line? If you want something naked to be pornography you can, all you need is a dirty mind. The quite logic response from the artist was that the art was not meant to be pornographic, it was as one would play with his own children. Besides, I'm pretty sure sir Elton John won't be aroused by a pair of naked girls.
In Germany looking at pornographic images of people that look like under aged persons will get you into prison -even if the person is actually 20 years old. That's horrible, they could bust half of the world's population for looking at girls that look like 14 but are really 20 (girls hardly seem to grow nowadays, must be bad weather or something).
I think pedophiles are screwed up pretty badly, but damn, I'd be a pedophile if I had a seventeen year-old boyfriend. Pedophiles to me are really (older) men or women that prefer sex with children, children, in my book, are kids under 14. Locking 'em all up is not an option, preventing the act is what I think is important. The only way to do that is to give the pedophiles what they want, but in the legal area of course. Let them enjoy the 18 year-old persons that look like they're 14 or whatever; if you take that away it'll be the same as with hookers, although prostitution remains a dangerous job, it's better than making it illegal and see an increase in rape victims. Of course, we the Dutch allow such things, the "pedophile party" almost enabled sex with 14 year-old children, but that was just a little too much for the Dutch. Banning porn that sits on the edge of being legal will give an increase in illegal pornography, and raping; it's plain logic, but the government seems to lack that these days.
However, if someone does rape a child, I would regret the fact that we have signed a treaty banning the death penalty in our country.
Anyway, I'm getting a little itchy lately, checking out the male wonders of the Netherlands more and more. I also have had this old song in my head for the past four days, you just go guess when it starts playing in my head. : )

Nope, but for those that do, I believe there should be something to keep them satisfied and their hands off the younger ones.
Nice idea Mr. Becker, but how to do that and protect kids, I don't know.
I agree with you that, while children should be protected, people are unnecessarily freaked out on the subject. Boys generally know earlier than girls what they want. When we demonize natural impulses we simply drive them underground, so the only expression it finds is criminal. In Japan and ancient Greece, it wasn't a problem, but a protected and even honored practice, considered beneficial to the social fabric. Maybe it wouldn't hurt us to learn from them.
